India – HDR Series

After posting hundreds of India photos from my trip this year on Facebook and Google Plus etc. I wanted to revisit some and do HDR treatments. I decided there were many shots that would work as HDR – though when I was in India there wasn’t time to do muli-shot set-ups. These would have to be HDR’s from single RAW files exported as 5 images to an HDR program. This time around I wanted to try NIK HDR Efex Pro 4 rather than my usual Photomatix program. Here are the first of these. All had tonemapping and finishing in Photoshop with Topaz Filters.

In The Wild

This fruit tree was blooming just off the path of a nature trail – it was near someone’s yard, but out in the wild. Wonder who planted it? Really pretty pink petals -so I added some reds and pinks to the texture layers. (distressedtextures.net)

An old styled sepia effect with a couple textures added in makes this modern day farm seem as if it’s from a different century.

Red Abstract

All done in Photoshop and Lightroom. Isolated 3 red tulips with Topaz Remask and duplicated and re-sized the layers about 6 times to fill it up. A bit of texture added and a vignette in Lightroom. Just a bit of fun and big color!

Bleeding Hearts

These beautiful spring flowers explode with color this time of year and are so delicate and beautiful. A couple textures layered under and through.

Chinese Screen Texture

The combination of textures and nature seems appealling as they just seem to mesh. This is an old weathered door and some fruit blossoms blended in the style of a Chinese screen.

Yellow Tulips

Working with a few more textures from distressedtextures.net. A simple tight crop of a couple tulips, a watercolor effect in Topaz Simplify, then the texture blends were added.

Blossoms In Blue

These pretty spring blossoms were shot late day. There was enough light coming through the tree to get some sky to add the warm blue tone. Shot with the Canon f1.8 prime at ISO 100 at 1/40 sec. Cleaned up and toned with Topaz Adjust filters in Photoshop CS5.

Stinson School – HDR

This old elementary school in my old neighbourhood in Hamilton, Ontario has been re-purposed as lofts and condos. Haven’t done an HDR shot for a while, and this one seemed to work with the strong brick work and bright lights and reflections in the lobby. Used NIK HDR Pro for the first time to process the HDR tonemap – and I like it maybe a bit better than Photomatix. Some brightening up with Topaz Adjust and Star Effects filters for Photoshop.
